Christine A. Baker is an author, screenwriter and communications professional whose career has been shaped by a lifelong belief in the power of a well-told story.
She is the author of Why She Plays: The World of Women’s Basketball, published by the University of Nebraska Press, and the forthcoming novel Raising Artemis, which will be published by Roundfire Books, an imprint of Collective Ink, on December 8, 2026. Blending magical realism with an emotionally grounded exploration of grief, healing and second chances, Raising Artemis reflects Christine’s enduring interest in the profound connections between people and animals.
As a screenwriter, Christine has written projects spanning drama, historical fiction and stories centered on complex women. Her screenwriting has earned recognition in numerous competitions and development programs.
Christine’s professional career spans journalism, public relations, branding, marketing, higher education and strategic communications. She has served as a college spokesperson, advised authors and organizational leaders, taught public relations and helped individuals and businesses clarify their ideas and communicate them effectively.
She is the founder of Labrador Publishing LLC, the creative and business home for her writing, publishing and selected professional work. Christine also designs personalized Wix websites for a limited number of authors, professionals and small businesses.
Christine holds a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University, where she received the Rulewater Prize. Her professional and creative work has also been recognized with a Billie Award nomination, the Mount Saint Mary College Distinguished Alumni Award and induction into two athletic halls of fame.
Based in Connecticut, Christine’s life and creative work have been deeply influenced by the animals who have shared her home.
